Several of your coworkers have been singled out for recognition of their contributions to Hermanson and the impacts they have made on the mechanical industry.
CEG Account Executive, Jay Danner, was honored last month with MCA Western Washington’s Instructor of the Year Award. Jay has been an MCA instructor since 2015 and currently teaches Mechanical Project Management (MPM) courses as well as the “Putting a New Lens on Safety” program. At the awards ceremony, Jay was noted for consistently meeting deadlines, showing up early and being prepared for classes, attending Instructor Training & Development classes, developing courses, and recruiting and mentoring new instructors. Jay is also an instructor for the University of Washington Construction Management department.
The Puget Sound Chapter of NAWIC (National Association of Women in Construction) held nominations for outstanding women in construction. Employees of Hermanson won two of the five categories! Vanessa Carman, Trimble Operator/Sheet Metal Detailer, won Tradeswomxn of the Year and was recognized for her work in developing a scheduling calendar used by jobsite Superintendents to ensure the availability of Trimble® equipment and trained company personnel. This scheduling tool has reduced downtime and ensured the timely use and coordination of equipment and manpower. Vanessa is also the Chair of the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 66 Women’s Committee and a mentor in their Mentoring Program. She volunteers at career fairs with the JATC throughout the year to educate people about apprenticeship opportunities and pay equity for women in the trades.
Desire’e Ropel was also honored as NAWIC’s Safety Advocate of the Year for managing a team responsible for implementing the safety programs that have helped improve Hermanson’s safety culture and promote the company’s moto: “Safety…..An Attitude for Life”. Through her leadership, Hermanson has adopted a program of Root Cause Analysis that brings together field and office staff to review Near Misses, Accidents and Recordables. This Analysis is published company wide and is instrumental in instituting effective practices that improve jobsite safety including replacing all jobsite A-frame ladders with platform ladders and the introduction of Kevlar sleeves for both demolition and installation operations. As a veteran, Desire’e supports hiring veterans and partners with Orion Industries to screen and train candidates. Her commitment to ensuring employment success for veterans continues well after their hire date, with continued training and ongoing professional development.
When your workday interactions come across Jay, Vanessa or Desire’e be sure to offer your congratulations. Their recognitions are an acknowledgment of Hermanson’s quality workforce.
