University of Washington Health Sciences Education Facility (HSEB)

100,000 sf | Seattle, Washington | Infrastructure & Public Works | Design-Build Engineering

The 4-story, nearly 100,000 sq. ft. University of Washington Health Sciences Education Facility (HSEB) is dedicated to education, featuring various active learning classrooms and student spaces. With a compact footprint, meticulous planning was crucial. Hermanson collaborated closely with the General Contractor and vendors to coordinate equipment placement, addressing challenges of a single access point.

The project involved a DOAS AHU system, with a separate AHU for the basement anatomy lab. Adhering to code requirements, Hermanson strategically isolated this system without impacting the main building's functionality. Installation included connecting high-pressure steam and campus chilled water. A 1/3 - 2/3 steam-reducing station and steam-to-hot water heaters were installed for energy efficiency. A chiller with heat recovery from a rooftop AHU was also integrated to optimize campus utilities.
