Sound Transit Operations and Maintenance Facility East (OMFE)

185,000 sf | Bellevue, Washington | Infrastructure & Public Works | Design-Build Engineering

Hermanson was selected to provide full Mechanical Design-Build construction of the Sound Transit Operations and Maintenance Facility East (OMFE) in Bellevue, WA. In 2008, Central Puget Sound region voters approved the Sound Transit 2 ballot to add regional express bus and commuter rail service and build 26 additional miles of light rail to form a 55-mile regional system. The OMFE is needed to store, maintain and deploy the expanded light rail vehicle fleet to operate the east link and Lynnwood Link extensions.

The OMFE consists of two buildings with a mixture of office/administration space, shop areas, maintenance and storage spaces. The office areas, administration spaces and shop areas for both buildings are served by rooftop air handling units and radiant beams. The maintenance bay will be heated by a radiant floor slab, and will utilize DX rooftop air handling units for cooling and outside air. Hot water will be fed to both buildings by high efficiency condensing boilers. Hermanson was responsible for all domestic plumbing systems, as well as provide the infrastructure for the gear oil, clean oil, used oil and compressed air systems for the maintenance equipment.
