King County Courthouse Seismic Restoration

598,000 sf | Seattle, WA | Infrastructure & Public Works

Hermanson provided full mechanical construction for this highly public project, which was completed on time and within the total budget for this major renovation replacing plumbing and HVAC systems throughout the historic structure. This work was done in response to the Nisqually Earthquake and the recognized need to reinforce government structures so that they would be more likely to remain functional after future seismic events.

Renovations took place in phases while the structure was occupied and functional, with interruptions of daily government activities kept to a minimum. This was accomplished by emptying and isolating one floor at a time, rerouting HVAC and plumbing systems so that the remainder of the building was operational and the systems within the effected space were available for replacement. Hermanson was responsible for all aspects of mechanical construction for the project (Plumbing, Piping, and HVAC/Sheet Metal), including management of the pre-selected controls contractor.
