It has been twenty years since Van Staten first joined Hermanson as a Plumber’s Helper, but he has since worked on many complex projects as Lead Plumber and now Foreman and has become a vital part of the Hermanson team.
“I enjoy most the feeling of accomplishment from having been involved in complex mechanical system project—from design, construction, to close out,” says Van, “I am fascinated by all the tools, materials, and machinery involved in making a project come together.”
Van experienced firsthand many of Hermanson’s recent fabrication shop upgrades during the early days of the COVID crisis. He was on the team that worked to fabricate commissioned hand washing stations for use at jobsites, healthcare facilities, office buildings, retail and manufacturing sites, and temporary quarantine shelters across the Puget Sound area and Oregon.

Responding to an increase in area gun violence, the United Black Christian Clergy started a four-week long construction skills program at Seattle Vocational Institute to provide opportunity for youth in the Central District.
